The Wrap Up: Round 3

MHS bounced back into form finishing 3-1 over the weekend. Great numbers on the track once again, followed by another terrific Thursday dinner (courtesy Peter and Leeanne Smith) held the high in good shape going into some competitive fixtures.

Under 19s

The Unders put in a solid showing claiming their first victory of the season. The High lead the Crushers at every break to get off the mark in 2017. The 16 point margin flattering Oakleigh, as some inaccuracy in front of goal gave them a sniff but were held off by the Junicorns. Durham McNamara continued his prowess in front of goal booting three and was joined by Chirs Tetaz who claimed four of his own. MHS will look to build on this momentum hosting De La Salle 2pm this Saturday.

Oakleigh 2.2-14 5.9-39 6.11-47 9.16-70
Melbourne High School Old Boys 3.6-24 7.8-50 10.16-76 11.20-86

Thirds

Finally something to do in Elsternwick on a Friday night. The Clubbies faced off in a rare Friday night game under lights at the Sportscover arena. Great service out of the middle gave the forwards every opportunity to mark and goal.  Strong defending prevented any Chadstone chance in the last quarter and made sure the weekend was off to a great start. Two Chris’ Birch and Miller proved a class above and did enough to see the high-school home. Prahran Assumption will throw down the gauntlet this week 11:40am down the road at Como Park.

Reserves

Having taken their foot off the gas at times the previous week, the two’s made sure they were full throttle this week. Inaccuracy gave Emmaus St Leo’s some false hope at the quarter time break before the smooth ball movement and picked holes in the defence. Matthew “The Bull” Duran was instrumental off the half back line,  well supported by Brendan Cook who got first hands to everything out of the centre. Some supreme mitts down forward made it a great day out for the big men of MHS. The performance just what the team was looking for heading into the Grand Final replay against West Brunswick this week.

Seniors

A late comeback was not enough to get the points as MHS let one slip to Emmaus St Leos. A tight encounter all day saw both teams produce some hard in and under football in patches. MHS were punished for mistakes and in the end lost by the smallest of possible margins. Tim Campelj and Tom Hickey did their best to get the midfield going however the result leaves MHS needing to make up ground fast at 1-2. Expect a big lift from the Senior team on the track as they set the tone right for this weeks crucial West Brunswick game.

Emmaus St Leos 3.4-22 5.6-36 9.9-63 11.10-76
