Round 1 Reserves Match Report

Emmaus St Leos:  5.5-35

MHSOBFC:  17.18-120

Round 1 was a strong win for the Magoos, who won every quarter and ended up beating the Animals (a clear infringement of Warner Brothers’ Tassie Devil) by 85 points.
In very warm April conditions, MHSOB conceded the first goal of the game but ran away to kick the next ten. The midfield group dominated from stoppages and started to feed the forward line regularly. Benny “the Birdman” Burton and Matty “Durantula” particularly benefited from an exceptional ruck performance from Tom Norton in his first game in maroon for a couple of years. New Recruits Joel Cheston and Daniel Curtin reloaded from defense and the forward line had an even spread of contributors.

A missed opportunity in the Preliminary Final last year has motivated the 2’s in season 2018 to be consistent and ruthless. Coach Bernie Pretty has focused the group on consistency of effort and high standards. This was the message for the second half and therefore it was was a slight disappointment when the Animals were allowed to kick four goals and at numerous times controlled the game. Nevertheless MHSOB at least made sure that outscored their opponents in the second half with Max Mazoooo……letti ending up with three well-earned goals. Benny Burton and Tom Rendell shared the Reggie.
