MHSOBFC Green: 13.14-92
Chadstone AFC: 16.3-99
The Clubbies had a heartbreaking encounter with Chadstone, going down by seven points with the match going down to the wire. On the back of 12 changes from last week’s side, the master coach, Dukes, had his work cut out for him.
Chadstone go the jump early, having most of the play early. They had prepared for big Arran Bouten who has been eviscerating teams with his goal-kicking, keeping him goal-less in the first term. Covering for the big forward in the first was Stu Grigg, who slotted two of his three in the first, in another great all round performance.
Chris Miller and Ben Southam were integral in the throughout the match, Miller finally joining the goalkickers, booting two majors for the day while Southam had his usual fifty plus disposals (Probably fifty, he has it on a string most weeks). Linford Dean battled hard in the ruck all day, his back Jesse Casserly going down early with a nasty cut to the head that required 15+ stitches.
Across the back half, Adam Jones ad Adam Granger were both resolute in what was a tough day for the backline, Chadstone were extremely accurate in front of goal, slotting 14 straight goals before kicking their first behind five minutes into the last quarter.
In spite of a strong start from the Chadstone key defenders, the coverage of Big Azz crumbled and he would go on to kick six goals for the day, taking his season total to an impressive, 43.
The Clubbies had their chances in the last term, forcing the ball forward but weren’t able to capitalise in front of goal to steal back the win. A costly day see’s the clubbies fall to fifth on the ladder, sitting just outside the top four by a couple of percent.
