On Sunday the reserves faced off against Uni-High in a preliminary final out in Craigieburn. Huge stakes as the winner would go through to the grand final. Uni-high lost against the top side last week and we were coming off a good win and feeling confident.
We knew it would be key to settle first and to get off to a good start. They kicked the first goal of the game within the first minute but from there we began to play our way and had most of the possession in the first quarter. They had the wind advantage but the defenders did a great job at turning the footy over and rebounding it back up the ground. We went in at quarter time with a one goal lead which was a great start to the game.
The second quarter we took advantage of the wind and played one of our best quarters for the year. We scored four unanswered goals and it was fantastic to see the boys up and about. At half time we lead by around 25 points.
At half time we spoke about starting again and not giving Uni-high the opportunity to get back into the game. We unfortunately did the exact opposite and had a pretty poor quarter. Despite letting them back into the game we still have a one goal lead going into the last change.
The last quarter we began to play like we did in second quarter and took back control of the game. It was great to see the boys react again to a challenge and kick away. We won the game by around 30 points.
Another really good win by the boys and its great to be back winning each week. Confidence is sky high as we look ahead to the big dance against Whitefriars this Sunday. We should all be really excited for next weekend, lets play our way and bring home the flag!
