On Sunday the reserves faced off against Whitefriars in the Grand Final! This was it, all of our hard work throughout the season had led to another chance to win a flag. We knew it would be a tough game coming up against the top of the table team, but we were confident we could get the job done.
The first quarter was a tight contest with both sides going hard at the footy. It was a low scoring first quarter with 5 goals being scored between the two sides. Whitefriars had a slight wind advantage and went in at quarter time with a 1 goal lead.
The second quarter was an even more tight contest with only two goals scored. We felt we were winning the footy more but were struggling to capitalise on our chances, kicking 4 behinds to only one goal. The half time margin was the same as the quarter time margin.
The third quarter was disappointing and hard to watch for our supporters. Whitefriars came out after the break hungry and were winning a lot of the footy. This gave them a lot of chances up forward and began to kick away. We could only manage to score one behind for the quarter and went into the final change 20 points down.
The final quarter was back to even-steven with both sides kicking 3 goals. It was one of the hardest quarters to be a part of as we just couldn’t get ourselves back in the game. C. McWhinney had a good game for us and kept fighting all day! B. Hayes & O. Miles also fought hard in the middle all day. Unfortunately, it was not the result we were after and a disappointing day for the boys, but we need to be proud of our efforts for the year. I hope to see everyone back again next year, to give us another big chance of going all the way. For now, enjoy the off-season boys.
