After a poor effort the previous week, the unicorns were in need of a win to put the 2019 season back on track. A pressure packed first quarter was a great foundation to build the game off, with the midfield dominating the clearances as well as putting an impressive 21 tackles on the board. Melbourne high went into quarter time with a convincing 19-point lead. However, there wasn’t any doubt amongst the group that Yarra Valley would come out strong in the second. BJ led the way with his clearance work, setting the standard for the rest of the day. Yarra Valley picked up their game with a 3-goal quarter, which bought the margin back to 17 points. Marred by the previous week’s efforts, the playing group put an emphasis on a four-quarter effort coming into the third. Leading from the front, Mitch Wilson motivated the team with courageous effort and skill to help extend the already impressive lead. A team effort finished with the unicorns maintaining a 22-point lead at the final siren. More importantly, the team finished with a convincing 88 tackles. This was a testament to the pressure applied by all 22 players throughout the day. The seniors now sit in the top 4 by the smallest of percentages. With some winnable games ahead, the boys are now in finals contention.
