Rd 10 V Yarra Old Grammarians
Round 10 saw the Corns head to Doncaster in the pouring rain to take on the Bushrangers, hoping to make it 2-0 for the season. Yarra started well, booting the first 3 goals, but the Corns hit back with the next 3 to even it up at the first break.
With the Suhr Burger dominant in the ruck, BJ and Prince Louie were given first use, giving MHS a healthy advantage at the stoppages. There hard work was translated to scoreboard pressure, as MHS took a lead into half time.
The second half saw the Corns dominate through the middle again, Steezy on a wing was great, winning a heap of the pill and using it beautifully. Unfortunately we couldn’t quite convert our hard work across the ground hard work into goals, with wayward kicking being far too common.
The last quarter was a scrap. Plenty of inside 50s for Yarra put the backs under pressure, but they stood up well, with Lafa, Whitts and Chesty all contributing. Yarra kicked some freakish goals, and came within a point and looked likely to enter their forward 50 again. However the Big Rig Pelj had other plans and slid from one wing to the other to put on a massive smother and deny the Bushrangers the chance at kicking another goal. The turnover meant HRS could gather, take a very confident bounce on the cricket pitch, and deliver to Stricko who kicked his fourth. Corns win it by 7, and are elevated into the top 4.
Next week we take on Bulleen Templestowe in what is shaping to be one of the biggest games for the year. A triple header with a Premiership reunion means there will be plenty of support for the senior side to have revenge on BT, who beat us in a close one in Rd1.
