MHSOBFC Club Statement on COVID-19

Thursday, July 2, 2020

With a heavy heart we are suspending training – this is in response to the VAFA decision to cancel season 2020 and the state governments current response to COVID-19.
Our measure of success isn’t playing finals and winning premierships in 2020.
Our measure of success is having 98 players – in the last five weeks alone – training with the club, getting fit, staying socially active and improving their game – all without the guarantee of football in 2020.
98 players. That’s pretty special. That’s 98 young men, enduring in most cases the most challenging year of their lives, all given a place to come and blow off steam and socialise with their peers and forget about the worries of the world for a couple of hours a week.
I could not be more grateful for the contribution of Lachlan McKinnon, Warren Fall, Kylie Da Fonte, our coaching staff and our player leaders. Their commitment, time and effort, provided those 98 young men with the opportunity to be a part of our club.
This suspension will last the duration of July. We intend to get things up and going in August. We won’t wait until 2021 – we are committed to getting you back out on the track as soon as possible.
We will continue to promote running sessions and skill components within the player groups.
If you are new to the club and want to get involved let us know and we will get you into a group – we would love to have you and you will be made welcome.
I would love to see a photo of each of you getting out and exercising tomorrow night.
Stay tuned.
Go ‘corns.
