R11 2023 | Reserves vs Bulleen Templestowe
MHSOB welcomed Bulleen Templestowe at the Woodfull-Miller Oval, looking to atone for a loss in their previous clash in Round 1.
The first quarter was something of a slog, with both teams feeling each other out around the ground. Midfielder Xabier Twyman, back in the side, started excellently, picking up right where he left off with his efficiency and attack on the contest. Coming into the end of term, MHSOB led 3.4-22 to 2.0-12.
The second term was more dominant for the home side, pushing the ball deep into the forward line to create high quality opportunities. Small forward Matthew Acciarito showed his class with some excellent snaps, and utility Gallen Gilmore also saluted. Despite some wayward kicking, the Unicorns ended the half with a comfortable lead of 47 points, 9.12-66 to 3.1-19.
Bulleen Templestowe made it a game in the third, as they dominated the ball and kept the play deep in their forward 50 and pushed to keep the game within reach, with the Unicorns ahead 11.15-81 to 8.2-50.
In response, MHSOB effectively killed the game with some early majors in the fourth, and the game ended with a convincing 39-point victory. Of particular note, Camilo Toro and Evan Riddle were sublime, with the ball on a string for the majority of the game. Key forward Byron Gunn kicked six majors, to take the lead in the division with 25 goals for the season.
