R13 2023 | Reserves vs St Mary’s Salesian

MHSOB welcomed St Mary’s Salesian to the Woodfull-Miller Oval during the TAC’s Road Safety Round, optimistic about their chances of a big win, given the reverse fixture was decided by a significant margin. It also marked the celebration of Zac Comley-Burns’ 100th game for the club.

The first quarter, and indeed the first half, was dominated by the home side. With respect to their opponents, their best periods only came through moments of concentration loss by the home team. Coming into halftime, the Unicorns had 22 scoring shots, and probably should’ve kicked truer, with a return of 11.11-77. Their counterparts, whilst kicking accurately, were down 45 points behind, on 5.2-32.

For the Unicorns, there were wonderful performances from Joel Hodder, Thirds’ stalwart Sam Bonser, and Nick ‘Stallion’ Campbell. The task for the remainder of the game was simple, more of the same.

The second half was an improved performance, kicking more precisely (13.8-86), and limiting their opponents on the defensive end (3.4-22). With 11 separate goalkickers, MHSOB kept the scorers busy, and more importantly improved their percentage, going into a vital clash with fellow finals aspirants South Melbourne next week.
