R4 2023 | Seniors vs South Melbourne Districts
With the weather abating, the stage was set for the Seniors to continue their winning form at home against South Melbourne Districts. This was seized upon early, with excellent forward delivery providing opportunities for the forwards, who feasted kicking 5.2. South Melbourne stayed in touch though, kicking 3.2, marking a 12-point deficit at the first break.
Despite repeat forward 50 entries, excellent intercept marks along the wings, and terrific work in the ruck from Will Suhr, South Melbourne turned on the screws in the second term, making the most of their own entries, kicking five goals to cut the lead to five points into the main break.
The fantastic game of 19-year-old Petro Pirozek continued into the third, dominating from the middle and providing excellent delivery, whilst defender Brendan Cook did an excellent job mopping up at the back, restricting South’s output to just two points. At the forward end, a tight quarter ended in two goals: one from Matthew ‘Low Test’ Pereira, and a wonderful shoe from captain Julian Eimutis on the boundary.
20 points to the good going into the fourth, the Unicorns turned on the screws, with excellent snags from Will ‘Hops’ Hellier of note.
