Thirds Round 14 2021

Following another covid lockdown, the clubbies were keen to finish the season of strong. The core unit of 12-odd blokes were ready to go, but we had to call in a few reinforcements to fill the squad, like dev squad coaches Adam and Liam, plus our injured co-captain Liam Ferris defied medical advice to pull on the boots for one last hurrah in 2021.

MHS started strong with 10 scoring shots to 9 in the first half, but an inaccurate second quarter of 1.6 meant we didn’t translate the on-field pressure to scoreboard pressure. A strong breeze meant Prahran controlled the third quarter. When we had the wind at our backs in the fourth, we were able to pile on a few quick goals, but it was too little too late.

Tom Feeney-Connor was incredible down back, intercepting and cutting off their forward entries in the air and on the ground, then rebounding strongly out of defence. Stallion ran hard all day and wasn’t afraid to take on (and break) opposition tackles. New recruit Tom Bulmer came from 40m away to complete the greatest smother in clubbies history. The back six held strong as they have all year, with special mention to Schodde and Beefy who threw themselves into contests and never let their opponent have an easy possession. Our inspirational onfield leader Liam Ferris kicked a goal from a 50m bomb, then followed it up with a soft free kick 20m out straight in front to send home his second.
