R4 2023 | Thirds vs Box Hill North AFC
A cold wet Saturday didn’t seem like the type of weather for such a high scoring match but the Thirds, with a strong line up and a full bench, took on Box Hill North AFC away at Elgar Park ready to get the job done.
The Thirds got off to a strong start in the first quarter outkicking the home team by seven goals to zero to take a 46-point lead into the first break.
Box Hill North fought back early in the second half getting on top of the clearances, but the backline, marshalled by Sam Habteslassie and Nick Taranto, defended well and repelled the opposition’s attacks. The midfield headlined by Pete Melilli and Sam Bonser were well supported by Josh Kulasingham and Albert Kuang on the outside, fighting back control of the midfield and gave the forward line plenty of opportunities throughout the whole game.
A discussion at three quarter time about wanting to carry our momentum into next week and beyond led to the players finishing the game off strongly, kicking eleven goals in the second half. It was a good day to be a forward with 44 shots on goal; key forward Jamie Shulman got on the end of a few finishing the game with five goals and Alex Stavrinos kicked four.
The final score line reflected the Thirds’ dominance all game running out 127-point winners.
