R7 2023 | Thirds vs Wattle Park AFC

The Thirds started a five-game stretch on the road against a fired-up Wattle Park AFC at Bennettswood Sports Ground. Excitingly, there were several returning players including the Shulman brothers – Ali and Jamie – and ruckman Adam Ashton.

The first half of the match was a low-scoring grind with neither team able to really break each other down nor take advantage of our opportunities. Lucas Blatchford was excellent down back stepping up in the absence of several key defenders and took several intercept marks.

The game began to open up in the second half as MHSOB gained more ascendency through the midfield and began to take advantage of our opportunities going inside 50.

This culminated in a flurry of goals in the final quarter with the Unicorns kicking six goals to one. Jamie Shulman ended up with six goals to finish the match with Ali scoring three from midfield.

It was great to see the Thirds finishing off games strongly and we look to carry that momentum into the next game against UHS-VU.
