Jnrcorns Round 1 2021
R1 vs Emmaus St Leo’s
There is no better start to a season than at the High, with the Castle overseeing the manicured grass of the Woodfull-Miller oval. The newly formed development squad, led by our fierce leader, Aditya ‘Dish’ Munukutla, were ready to begin 2021 on the right foot - raring to go after a season lost in the throes of the pandemic. Energy levels were high, with new faces plentiful, and new coach Adam Tardif rallied the boys for a battle against Emmaus St Leos.
The first centre bounce was hotly contested, but the boys quickly gripped the ascendancy with dash from James ‘Dimma’ Dimogotsi and tenacity at the coalface from Michael ‘Zeus’ Kaniadakis. CJ quickly opened the account for the Corns, snapping truly across his body, resulting in the floodgates opening - the quarter time score read 47-0.
The game continued to flow the way of the High with Kevin Healy and Cameron Witt controlling the wings, and the backline starring our skipper and David ‘Hooksy’ Hook stemming any positive play from the Emmaus boys. Cody Graefe and Zeus piled on the grief, with 4 goals apiece with the final score line reading 129 - 7.
It was a positive first outing, with the most notable moment coming when Hooky used an Emmaus boy as his personal stepladder to snag a mark. There was much to like from the first round, and the team will be sure to carry on this momentum into round 2.
