R3 2023 | Thirds vs Parkside

The Thirds came up against the top-of-the-ladder team Parkside to kick off Round 3. It was set to be a tough match against two unbeaten sides, made even harder with a few notable players out from the first two rounds.

The Unicorns got off to a bright start early in the first quarter controlling the ball but were unable to make Parkside pay on the scoreboard, who themselves kicked a few goals to finish the first quarter. From there, we were unable to make the most of our opportunities with the ball against the stronger side who were well drilled in their gameplan. Stefan Longo ran hard and competed all day by winning contests and providing an option all over the ground. Key defenders Matt Leyland and Tristan Francis both fought valiantly in the ruck in the absence of an experienced option, against a much more experienced Parkside opponent.

Despite the score line going against us, it was pleasing to see the players never dropped their heads and continued to take the game on all day. It’s a big game this week as we look to bounce back against Box Hill and reclaim our spot in the top four.

Final Score: MHSOB: 0.4-4 defeated by Parkside: 16.16-112
