R4 2023 | Reserves vs South Melbourne Districts

The Reserves welcomed South Melbourne Districts to the home of the VAFA, Woodfull-Miller Oval, looking to continue their winning ways.

In particular, the Unicorns had not won a first quarter for the year, and were able to do so, however the inclement weather tempered any large margin on the board, kicking 2.4 to South Melbourne’s 1.2.

Coming into the second quarter, South Melbourne played some excellently structured football, winning clearances and mopping up on intercept marks, creating a lead for themselves at the main break, despite excellent efforts from co-captain Orlando Seelander up forward, and the ever-present Shannon Keough down back.

Unfortunately for the Unicorns, South Melbourne pushed on in the third quarter, dominating the scorecard, bringing in a 31-point lead to the final break.

To their credit, excellent work from the midfield unit, in particular Alistair Rogers and another solid display from Gordon Beet, gave the Unicorns half a chance in the fourth, kicking four goals to make it a game. Sadly, South Melbourne kicked away in the final moments, to win the game by 14 points.
