R3 2023 | Reserves at Aquinas

The Reserves were keen to get their first win of the season after a tough loss the week prior against Parkside. They looked to set the foundations with a strong start against Aquinas, kicking the first goal through Byron Gunn. However, Aquinas appeared to be up to the challenge and kept in touch at the first break, trailing by two points.

Building on their start, the Unicorns managed to create a buffer with excellent midfield play leading to some repeated entries, and goals from Matthew Acciarito and James Cusack among others giving a nine-point lead at the main break.

Having not lost a third quarter all season, the team built on their lead off the back of some excellent rebound work from the defenders, including some fantastic efforts by Zac Comley Burns and Gordon Beet, extending the lead to 22 points.

Although Aquinas kept fighting, strong defensive work and turnovers proved costly, as the Unicorns ran away 24-point winners.
