Seniors Round 6 2021

A rare feature in the VAFA Fixture, 3 on the trot at the Woodfull Miller for the Unicorns, this week matched up against the winless Bulleen Templestowe Bullants. The Bullants coming in to the game as an upset tip for victory in the VAFA Record, would have to be at their best to tackle a rampaging Unicorns who had put together 4 wins in a row.

The Unicorns started with absolute guns blazing. Will Suhr took immediate control in the middle and went to work with Liam Littore, Cook & Danks to deliver 20 inside 50 entries in the first quarter. Up forward, the twin towers of Hanly and Wijayakumara looked like they would be competing for a big bag of sausages. The Unicorns were able to pile on 8 goals to 1 to set the tone for what looked to be a long afternoon for boys from Ted Ajani Reserve.

¼ Time: MHSOBFC 8-3-51, Bulleen Templestowe 1-0-6

The Unicorns continued their hot form in the second quarter. Their dominance across the field was on show. It was in this quarter that big Will Suhr allegedly took mark of the century, jumping on to his opponents shoulders and then elevating further from there. The Unicorn bench looked nervous, as a flight like that has generally landed you in 14 days hotel quarantine lately. Unfortunately, the authorities were unable to lock the big boy up, as video footage of the event was missing after the coaches in their wisdom had sent the videographers off to scout some other action for the weekend.

½ Time: MHSOBFC 14-8-92, Bulleen Templestowe 3-2-20

The feeling coming out of the rooms after half time was that the Unicorns had only done half the job. The team were able to continue their strong momentum from the first half in converting 5 unanswered goals in the third quarter. Pleasingly, the Unicorns also kept Bulleen Templestowe scoreless and extended their margin in to triple figures. It was turning out to be a good day to be a forward, as there was plenty of opportunities to get your name amongst the goalkickers.

¾ Time: MHSOBFC 19-14-128, Bulleen Templestowe 3-2-20

The final quarter much like previous weeks felt like the sting had gone out of the game. There was a sense of routine about the Unicorns, as their discipline showed through in continuing on with each contest at their merits. Wijayakumara took the change to extend his lead on top of the competition goal kicking ladder, and Hanly converted his 5th. The Unicorns ran out winners by 135 points.
