Seniors Round 7 2021
Travelling out to Aquinas College for the first time since the venue was a neutral location for the 2015 Reserves Preliminary Final, the Unicorns after three weeks playing at home were keen to demonstrate that their recent form could hold up against any opponent, anywhere. The Unicorns started strongly, with a dominant midfield taking charge of the clearances early on. Fenessy-Kent (the Wizard) converted the Unicorns first goal with what could be a contender for goal of the year. Danks led from the front with double digit touches and two goals, and Wijayakumara was also creating headaches early on with multiple F50 marks, converting from the goal square on one occasion and hitting the post from 3 metres out on another. The Unicorns dominance leading to a large first quarter lead.
¼ Time: MHSOBFC 6-2-38, Aquinas OC 1-0-6
The second quarter was a tighter affair with both teams unable to take an ascendency or hit the scoreboard with any rhythm. The Unicorns managed to win the quarter two goals to one despite a scrappy affair. Burton’s impact was felt across the ground as his unrelenting pressure helped on a number of occasions to keep things tight.
½ Time: MHSOBFC 8-5-53, Aquinas OC 2-4-16
The Unicorns again asserted themselves after the major break with the first goal. After giving up a quick response, the Unicorns were able to pile on 8 on the trot. Wijayakumara and Burton were prolific again, each ending the quarter with 5 and 4 snags respectively. The Unicorns took their chances to finish the third quarter with a 85 point lead.
¾ Time: MHSOBFC 17-7-109, Aquinas OC 3-6-24
The Unicorns were able to continue their second half dominance through the final quarter, holding Aquinas scoreless. A forward half cameo from Hellier had the crowd excited, before the Wizard capped things off by casting a spell on the opposition as he converted his fourth goal. The Unicorns ran out victors by 113 points, making it six wins in a row.
