Jnrcorns Round 14 2021

Once again, the Jnrcorns were thoroughly keen for a return to footy post another Victorian lockdown especially with the prospect of Friday night footy. With a very much interrupted season this game was an opportunity for the team to get a run out before a much-awaited finals campaign.

Friday night footy posed a different challenge with there being a substantial breeze giving a clear advantage to a side kicking to that end. Unfortunately, the captain once again lost the toss making his record 3-8 at the coin toss. Parkside came out hot, clearly had pushed a couple of players down taking advantage of the Friday night game, particularly as they had the wind. While the Jnr Corns stood firm, they still found themselves down at the quarter time break.

The game was a strong tussle throughout with a couple of Parkside players putting the team on their back while the Jnr Corns were fighting hard collectively to keep the game within reach. Clearly both sides were a little rusty considering the large break from football and it showed as the Jnr Corns unfortunately produced a subpar first 3 quarters.

However, with some grit and determination they sprung to life in the 4th quarter kicking away and producing with a fairly comfortable 12 point victory. Standout performers were Al Rogers who was ferocious as ever in the contest, the ever-reliable Joseph Pious and the superstar duo of Cam Witt and Kevin Healy who continue to amaze us that they’re both in year 11.

They now look forward to the first week of a finals campaign against Monash, a team they narrowly lost to earlier in the year. But with some new faces and a side who’s won 4 on the trot, the Jnrcorns are confident of knocking them off.
