Jnrcorns Round 7 2021

Our first test for the season, against a quality side of the competition that matched our age group as a young dev squad came as we faced AJAX. The coaching group introduced some new structures that the players were familiar with but hadn’t yet tried in a game. In the the first quarter we matched with intensity and effort to win the footy. However 8 scoring shots to 2 showed that we had some work to do in the second to get the game back on our terms.

1/4 time MHSOBFC 1.1.7 to AJAX 3.5.23

In the second quarter we had the breeze but we could not convert from the amount of entries we had in our forward 50, and even though Will Kruyt dominated the ruck, their mids were winning the contests.

1/2 time MHSOBFC 1.4.10 to AJAX 5.10.40

With the AJAX mids creating havoc, at halftime the coaches decided to put on a tag on their most dominant mid for the first time this season through Samson and Abi. Both are new to footy, this was an unfamiliar role for them, but they both took to it like bees to honey. This showed selflessness and helped to reduce their run and transitions down the field. We still just couldn’t put a score on for the quarter.

3/4 time MHSOBFC 1.4.10 to AJAX 8.12.60

For the final quarter we tried hard, but AJAX continued to show their class with their ball movement. The challenge was for us to kick 3 goals, however could not put it on the scoreboard. Throughout the whole game our defenders were under pressure, they tried everything to stop AJAX scoring power led by Dish, and Cameron Witt continued to show his sheer talent in the midfield of winning the footy both on the ground and in their air. Some good signs and great learnings came from this game and we knew what we needed to do to get better and also beat AJAX next time we play them at home.

Full time MHSOBFC 1.7.13 to AJAX 12.15.87
