Following a tough outing in their previous match against Old Xaverians, MHSOBFC returned to their home ground for a clash against Therry Penola, eager to play another re-graded team again.
The game kicked off at the traditional 2pm slot, and both teams were ready for a hard fought contest. Therry Penola made a strong start, kicking into gear with four goals in the first quarter. The Unicorns’ midfield, however, responded late in the quarter to help create two crucial goals, showing their ability to compete in spite of the early setback.
In the second term, MHSOBFC struggled to find their rhythm as Therry Penola continued to dominate. The away side added another 4.3-27 to their tally, and although the Unicorns managed to find the scoreboard with five scoring shots of their own, they could only muster 1.4-10. Therry went into the halfbreak leading by 24 points.
Therry Penola extended their lead further in the third quarter with a string of early goals. Strong efforts from MHSOB’s backline, led by Jai Raptis and Matthew Giarracca, helped limit the visiting team’s relentless attacks. By the end of the term, Therry was firmly in control, leading 8.10-58 to 2.5-17.
Facing a daunting deficit in the final quarter, the Unicorns aimed to challenge themselves and managed to score an early goal from midfielder Mark Fenwick. However, Therry Penola continued to press, adding eight more goals to their tally and would run away 111-point winners.
Despite the heavy defeat, MHSOBFC exhibited resilience, particularly with a spirited final term. Patches of great effort throughout the game highlighted the team's potential and determination. With continued focus on building cohesion and consistency at training, the Unicorns can look forward to better performances and future successes.
