R9 2024 | U20s at Old Xaverians
MHSOBFC ventured to Stradbroke Park in Kew to play Old Xaverians in an attempt to notch their first win of the season after encountering some recent heavy losses.
In a blisteringly cold early start, both teams entered the first quarter with a competitive spirit. Almost breaking even in centre clearances, both sides had ample opportunities to score with forward entries. One of the key highlights was Arush Jhunjhunwala’s clever snap goal that kept the Unicorns in the hunt at the end of the quarter.
The second term proved to be disastrous for MHSOBFC as Old Xaverians kept piling on goals. With the momentum slipping away, the defence kept getting overwhelmed by the amount of the forward entries from the home team. Sam Tralaggan, switching from his usual key-forward role, performed well in his new role in the backline while Jem Duncan kept providing a contest against some clever opposition forwards.
Trying to improve from the first half, the Unicorns kept battling on, trying to even up in as many of the contests as possible. Sam King provided constant run on the wing.
The fourth quarter demonstrated a more competitive Unicorns outfit as they managed to provide some highlights that lifted the boys’ spirit. Both Idhant Yarlagadda and Ansel Cate managed to kick their first career goals with their teammates getting in on the celebrations.
Ultimately, the Unicorns went down by 111 points. While they suffered another heavy loss, the team keeps improving incrementally each week, and will continue seeking their first win of the season against Therry Penola.
