R9 2023 | Thirds vs Whitefriars

First game back from the bye for the Thirds was set to be a big away game against the top placed Whitefriars.

The Unicorns didn’t get off to a great start allowing the youthful home side to dictate the play. An inability to control the ball and cause turnovers meant they finished the first half 41 points down.

The Thirds came out more fired up in the second half intent on getting something out of the game. A few positional changes were also made with Karl Lugod, traditionally a midfielder, assisting Adam Ashton in the ruck and becoming a fourth midfielder at stoppages. Stefan Longo moving from the wing into the middle and Sam Bonser shifting behind the ball helped the Unicorns wrestle back some control of the ball and play our brand of footy. However, it didn’t result in a reward on the scoreboard and the team went down in the end by 81 points.

It was a tough day up forward with Jamie Shulman the only goal scorer kicking four for the day. However, it positive news it takes him to the top of the division’s goal kicking tally.

The Thirds will look to make amends next week with another tough match up against Mazenod. Let’s go ‘Corns!!
