R2 2023 | Reserves vs Parkside

The Reserves faced Parkside for their first game of the year at the Woodfull-Miller Oval. There was an excitement in the air but the Unicorns let some opportunities go early and couldn’t capitalise when they needed to, going into the first break 22 points down.

Some stellar defensive work from Shannon Keough in the second quarter steadied the ship to go into halftime with a three goal deficit.

The third quarter saw the Unicorns hit their stride with a flurry of six goals in a 15-minute burst to take the lead by ten points at the last break. Some brave use from Dinuk Epa and blistering speed from deputy vice-captain Nick Campbell showed that the Unicorns are a juggernaut at their best.

Unfortunately, the slow start made for a tough task and the legs were too heavy to hold off a disciplined Parkside in the end. Two late goals sealed a ten-point loss for the boys in the green, maroon and black. Some lovely signs but a bit more work to do to get the W.

Onto Aquinas next week.
