JNRCORNS ROUND 11 2021
When we last played AJAX at their home ground they beat us by 67 points and showed us know respect. This time it was their turn to play us at home, and we wanted revenge. The Jnrcorns went into the game with the plan of shutting down their run. We knew we needed to bring intensity. Right from the very first bounce, we put AJAX on the back foot from that moment on led by Will Kruyt, Ben Britbart, Joey Pious and Kev Healy.
1/4time: MHSOBFC 3-3-21 AJAX 2-1-13 In the second quarter our side lifted to another level around all parts of the ground, shutting the opposition side down reducing them to only 1 goal thanks to great defensive work from Byron, Chesty and Hooksy, while we continued to hit the scoreboard with four goals from the quarter where Dish, Cam Witt and Dylan Hamilton-Ho caused major headaches for the AJAX backline. A mention must be made for Dylan’s hanger right in front of the bench, if only Titch’s dad was there cause we’d have a picture to hang on the wall in the clubrooms for all to admire for several years.
1/2 time: MHSOBFC 7-8-50 to AJAX 3-3-21 At halftime we could hear the AJAX coach going off at his players, the message from the coaches was clear, we needed to maintain the pressure and lift to another level. Unfortunately the AJAX coaches spray must have worked because they piled on 3 goals in the first 5 minutes, turned the tide and began their pursuit to bridge the gap on the scoreboard. Going into the 3 quarter time break our bench was reduced to 2 after Byrons face made friends with Hooky’s elbow, put Chesty on ice and Samson developed knee soreness.
3/4 time: 9-9-63 to AJAX 7-6-48 With Byron going down and after kicking 4 goals for the game so far the coaches were left with no choice but to swing Dish back to fullback. Our whole team knew our backs were against the wall and responded accordingly. A prime example was Joey Pious getting crunched while spoiling a mark knowing full well that hard contact was coming. Dish was outstanding down back, our mids continued their hard work rate led by our dominant ruck combo Will Kruyt and Cody Graffe finishing the game with 12 centre clearances and our forwards continued their attack on the scoreboard.
